Maths Week in P2!

We have had lots of visitors in Primary 2 this week for maths week. They have come in to talk to us about how important maths is and how they use maths in their jobs and everyday lives. We have had a visit from Jacqui Anderson who is a Fish Merchant from Blue Sea Products and owner of Countesswells Fish Shop, Dawn Walker (mum of Thomas) who is a Nurse, Mrs Brands who was talking to the children about diabetes and Miss Mellville who is a BP student at Charleston and also works in Yo Sushi. They have been explaining to the children that they need to use addition, subtraction, division and times tables to work out prices of products, how much people need to pay and how much change they are due. They also need to use measurement a lot in their jobs. They need it to weigh fish, take temperatures and administer medicine. It has been very interesting and the children have been asking lots of great questions. They even got to weigh fish and everyone in the class got their oxygen levels check by Dawn, which they loved! We were trying to reach 100 – we nearly managed!

Here are some pictures too!

Big School Birdwatch!

P2 also took part in the Big School Birdwatch as part of whole school Eco plan! We completed a survey of the birds we saw in the playground and surrounding area and sent the information we gathered to the RSPB. It was a little tricky as some of them flew away but we did see lots of seagulls, a magpie in its nest, some starlings, blackbirds and pigeons. To try to encourage some smaller birds to the area around the school we also put out some bird seed on the bird table and made some delicious and quite smelly bird feeders for them to peck on in the cold weather! We are sure they will love them! Happy eating birdies!

100 Days in School!

We recently celebrated 100 days in school and had a very fun morning moving around the different P1 – P3 classrooms! In P2 we created self portraits of what we think we might look like when we are 100 years old – we added lots of wrinkles and grey hair, here are a few for you to have a giggle!
